Internship time commitment is approximately 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. Please note our location (Murchison, Texas) and any travel arrangements you may need to make before applying as an intern.
Interns receive a $50 per week stipend. Free housing may be available and course credit can be arranged. Interns must pass a criminal background check and sign a waiver and release of liability.
Animal Care Interns have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on animal care experience, knowledge about a variety of species, and exposure to the operations of an animal care center. Interns rotate through our three animal care departments (equine, primate, and wildlife), spending a month in each department.
Veterinary technician interns will primarily learn about and perform various animal husbandry and medical duties alongside the staff while gaining valuable ranch experience.
Sanctuary Facilities Interns will assist the Facilities Department with the daily maintenance of the sanctuary. The facilities internship primarily involves land management responsibilities, but also incorporates maintenance tasks as well. Duties include landscaping, irrigation, enclosure modification, and vehicle maintenance.
Education and Outreach interns will learn about and gain experience in humane education, community outreach, event planning, grant research and writing, social media and public speaking. Interns participate in planning and implementing education and outreach programs alongside staff while learning about the care center's work and philosophies.
